The information technology establishes the employment of computing into every activity, starting from communication, to health, administration, arts, education and essentially in the research technologies. Today, nearly every electric device integrates a processor. The great revolution of the past century is believed to have occurred due the emergence of computers. From the perspective of the science, the exploitation of computers has enabled a vast development in every segment, generating new results, which were previously unreachable by the previously available techniques.
Broadly speaking, a Computer Science course is meant to educate professionals capable of acting on segments, which require the elaboration of algorithms and systems devoted to fit specific needs of numerous segments, including the ones concerning the development of computer software’s infrastructure (operational systems, compilers, databases, browsers) and software for embedded, mobile and cloud computing systems.
In this regard, the Bachelor program of Computer Science of the DComp/UFSCar (BCCS) intends to prepare capable professionals to the planning, analysis, research, development and utilization of computing systems in diverse activities of the society. Furthermore, the professional graduated by the BCCS must gather knowledge, creativity and judgment skills to act as a problem solver of the Computing area, both in corporate and academic environments, always considering essential aspects for sustainable development.
In brief, the BCCS is an innovating alternative to students, which aim to pursue a professional career in the forefront of technological innovations and satisfying the principles of sustainability. The course has as its objective, to offer a learning environment, which enables the growth of students without previous Computing experience, and at the same time, challenge the ones familiar with the subject.
SUSTEINABILITY AS THE PARTICULARITY OF THE BCCS
Aside from a solid theoretical and conceptual education, together with practical education, which stimulates the combination of theoretical concepts to solve real problems, the BCCS has as its particularity, the emphasis on Sustainability, which intends to provide the graduated students with a critical view of their profession concerning their responsibilities and potential contributions, while functioning as professionals of the area, to the society and global environment.
In this regard, the BCCS introduces in its curriculum some specific courses, which comprise basic concepts, related to sustainability, as well as the construction of information technology solutions considering sustainability aspects.
